Philippians 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. (NKJV)

Paul writes, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Why does he say that to die is gain? From a human point of view, death is the end. When a person dies, their life is over. What is there to gain in that? If your finances die, you have no more money. If your health dies, you are left without strength. So how can death possibly be gain? But for the believer, death brings something greater. Spiritually speaking, it is only through the death of our old self—our sinful nature inherited from Adam—that Christ can live in us. This is the kind of death Paul is referring to: the death of the old man so that new life can begin. That is why we must no longer view ourselves merely by outward appearance or natural thinking. We must see the deeper reality: Christ lives in us. For us to live is Christ. And because Christ lives in us, what He can do, we can do through Him. The authority He has, we also have in Him. This does not mean we become God— but we are born of God. We carry His nature. We reflect His love, His power, His peace, His health and, His abundant supply. So, while we are not God, we are united with Him in spirit. We do not live independently of Him—we live in Him and through Him. To live is Christ means we live as one with Him. Amen!
